Thornton (DOB May 2020) is an affectionate boy with soulful eyes and a gentle nature. He loves being close to his people and is happiest when curled up beside you on the couch. When you come home, expect an enthusiastic greeting complete with joyful bouncing, happy chitters and plenty of grumbly conversation.
While he can be quite the talker when excited, he’s usually fairly quiet and rarely barks. He doesn’t seem to be interested in toys, but is a big fan of bones and things he can chew. He also has a fondness for long naps and will seek out the comfiest of places for a snooze.
Thornton appears to have had limited exposure to life outside the home. New environments, crowds and busy settings can make him nervous, causing him to become hesitant or tremble in fear. He takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once comfortable, he becomes very affectionate and thoroughly enjoys the attention.
Thornton is a sensitive dog who thrives with patience, routine and reassurance. He is best suited for a quieter home and needs a family that will work with him on confidence building at a pace that feels safe for him. While he is kid-friendly, any children in the home should be a little older and respectful of his space.
He is dog-friendly and enjoys playful zoomies and bouncing around with his fur friends. He prefers not to engage in rowdy wrestling matches, so any dogs in the home should be a match for his calmer play style. While he has no history with cats, he shares his foster home with a free-flying parrot. Any interest he may display is easily redirected with a “leave it” command.
Thornton is well behaved and doesn’t require crating. Walks around the neighborhood are enjoyed and he has reasonably good leash manners. He knows several obedience commands, is cooperative for grooming and has been guilty of helping himself to tempting treats that are left unattended. Road trips are fun, but he may need some assistance when loading up. Thornton requires a fenced yard.
He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative. He is fostered in Vero Beach and is ready for adoption. If you would like to make him a part of your family, please fill out an application and submit the processing fee.
