Kai (DOB March, 2022) has a bubbly personality and loves to be the center of attention. While he enjoys leaning on you to get the very best pets, he’s not big on cuddling and tends to have a bit more of an independent nature. Kai has a moderate energy level and spends a large part of his day snoozing. When the time for lounging is done, he has a need for speed and hits the ground running.
Kai likes all kinds of toys, but his favorites are balls and rope. He enjoys spending time outdoors and loves zooming around the yard with a toy in his mouth. Chase games are another favorite of his, especially when he is the one being chased. He also really likes to roll around in the grass when he first heads outdoors after waking from a nap.
While Kai is generally a fairly chill boy, he can still become overstimulated when excited and can forget his manners and training. As he is still maturing and is influenced by his surroundings, he is best suited for a calm household with a structured environment and someone generally home. His family will need to be patient and continue to work on his training and socialization in a positive and loving manner.
He will need a large, playful dog buddy for exercise and companionship. Small dogs are probably not recommended at this time, though he is cat friendly. Children should be older and adults should be sturdy, as Kai isn’t always aware of his size or what’s in his vicinity when he’s excited or out in the yard zooming.
He is crate trained, though crating isn’t required when he’s home alone. He knows his obedience commands, but continued training is recommended to reinforce them. Kai loves walks, but still needs some work on his leash manners. He rides well in a vehicle and is always ready for a road trip. A 6 foot fence is a must, as he can jump anything lower.
Kai has had a history of irritated, flaky skin that did not improve with food changes or supplements. Ultimately, the removal of chicken from his diet appears to have resolved all his skin issues and it’s highly recommended that this be continued. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative.
He is fostered in Sarasota and is ready for adoption. If you would like to make him a part of your family, please fill out an application and submit the processing fee. If you have questions about Kai or the adoption process, please email our adoption coordinator at cherie@gdlcf.org.
