Josephine (DOB March, 2025) is a young girl with big puppy energy. She is affectionate, adores snuggling and is happiest when she’s close to her people. Jo loves to play hard and will power down when it’s time to relax—until someone signals it’s playtime again!
Like most puppies, Jo is mouthy and jumpy when excited. She is still learning “leave it” and “gentle.” She loves toys, especially durable chews and has a habit of collecting them (along with the occasional forbidden item) in her crate.
Jo is under-socialized and can be fearful of new people and experiences. She is very vocal and may grumble or growl when meeting someone new, but this is simply her way of processing things. With patience, calm guidance and a little time, she warms up and embraces new friends and adventures.
She is dog-friendly and takes direction well from confident, older dogs. She will require another large fur friend in the home that will enjoy her rough, Dane-style play and will be happy to show her the ropes. Jo is fostered with cats and wants to play with them. If she becomes too annoying, she is easily redirected.
Jo is good with children and currently lives with a 9 year old. As she has a tendency towards rough play, she should always be supervised as loud and boisterous activities will ramp her up. She is best with dogs-savvy children that will understand her puppy nature and will respect whatever boundaries are set.
She is crate trained and crating is highly recommended until she is past the puppy stage. Jo rides well in the car and is tolerant of baths and nail trims. Obedience training and leash manners are currently works in progress. As she bonds deeply with her people and requires crating for her safety, a household with someone home frequently is preferred. She will require a fenced yard.
Jo is currently intact and can either be spayed prior to adoption or adopted on a spay contract. If a spay contract is chosen, her surgery is to be performed by the age of 18 months. Proof of spay should be sent to the rescue and $225 of the adoption fee will be refunded. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative.
She is fostered in Mims and is ready for adoption. If you would like to make her a part of your family, please fill out an application and submit the processing fee. If you have questions about Jo or the adoption process, please email our adoption coordinator, cherie@gdlcf.org.
