Ruben (DOB February, 2020) is a striking boy with a unique personality and a flair for making an impression. He has a moderate energy level and is a blend of independence and pushy demands for affection. While he’s not much of a snuggler, he will happily barge into your space when he’s in the mood for attention. He also likes to rest his toys on you while chewing.
Ruben enjoys being around people and likes making new friends, though he seems to gravitate a bit more towards men. He is a big, clumsy guy and is completely unaware of his size and surroundings. He is a strong leaner and will barrel into you as he’s moving about, as well as trample your feet throughout the day. Ruben requires a dog savvy home with a strong, physically fit family. A solid routine will need to be established for him and an abundance of patience and love will be necessary to help smooth out his rough edges.
He is happy to live as an only dog or with a small to medium canine companion. He is not good with larger dogs, as he tends to be extremely protective of his crate and high value toys when around them. He is also not recommended with cats. Due to his size and bumbling nature in the home, any children should be at least 16 years of age.
He is crate trained and has reasonably good leash manners on a gentle leader. He enjoys spending time outdoors and will require a fenced yard. While Ruben has excellent recall, he does need more work on his obedience commands. He enjoys heavy duty toys, prefers the cool floor to dog beds and rides well in a vehicle. Ruben is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative.
He is fostered in Cocoa and is ready for adoption. If you would like to make him a part of your family, please fill out an application and submit the processing fee. If you are an approved adopter interested in Ruben or have questions about him or the adoption process, please email Cherie, our adoption coordinator, at cherie@gdlcf.org.
