Hazelnut

Adopted by the Roe Family, October 2025

Hazelnut (April 2021) is an affectionate girl who loves nothing more than cuddling up with her humans.  She is extremely chill in the home and spends much of her day lounging around.  During her more spirited moments, she enjoys playing with her stuffies and will bring you one of her favorites for a game of tug.  Hazelnut tends to be more energetic outdoors and enjoys racing around the property.  She absolutely loves it when you join her for a lap or two.  She requires a spacious yard with a 6 foot fence.

Hazelnut is very shy when meeting new people and takes a while to warm up.  Once she does, you are her new best friend and she wants all your attention.  While Hazelnut is always ready for a walk around the neighborhood or a ride in the car, she is very much a homebody and isn’t comfortable at busy social events.  This is likely due to a lack of socialization.  Her foster home feels that with time and patience, efforts to expand her horizons will help her to grow in confidence and become more outgoing.

She is gentle with children and is recommended with kids age 8 and up.  She is also great with kitties, but is best as an only dog.  Hazelnut is trustworthy in the home and while crate trained, doesn’t require it.  She knows her obedience commands and generally has good leash manners.  She does have a bit of a prey drive with squirrels and rabbits while on walks, so further training may be beneficial.  Hazelnut is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative.

She is fostered in Merritt Island and is ready for adoption. If you would like to make her a part of your family, please fill out an application and submit the processing fee. If you are an approved adopter interested in Hazelnut or have questions about her or the adoption process, please email Cherie, our adoption coordinator, at cherie@gdlcf.org.
