Theo

Theo joined the DelaCruz family, July 2022

Theo is an 8 year old (DOB November, 2013) harlequin male.  He is a sweet, affectionate boy and bonds strongly with his people.  He always wants to be by your side and will follow you from room to room. Theo loves to cuddle and believes he is entitled to all the love and pets.  He will poke at you and nudge your hand when he wants attention.  With his strong attachment to family, having someone around more often than not is a plus.

His second greatest love is food.  He gets so excited at meal times, dancing around and twirling.  He is overjoyed by the thought of food and barks so exuberantly that his front feet lift off the floor. Theo does engage in some polite counter surfing, occasionally snagging food items that stray within reach of his tongue.

Theo is very active for his age and will require a fenced yard.  He still regularly zooms around with the younger Danes in his foster home. Theo also loves fetch and will happily bring the ball back. He enjoys a good tug session and dives right into ongoing wrestling matches. Theo will require another large dog in the home for play and companionship.  He does tend to be in-your-face barky when excited, so a tolerant companion is best.

He is cat friendly and enjoys leashed walks.  Theo loves social outings and hates to be left home. He is confident in public and makes friends everywhere he goes. He rides well in the car, but may need some help loading up his back end.  Theo knows basic obedience and is crate trained, though crating is not required.  He has no known history with children, so any kids in the home should be older.

Theo came into rescue heartworm positive.  Due to a severe reaction to the treatment protocol, he was switched to Advantage Multi.  While he is now heartworm negative, his adoptive family will be required to use Advantage Multi as his lifelong heartworm preventative.  Theo was also overweight and has lost 20 pounds. Despite his intense love of and longing for food, keeping his weight down is important to his mobility.  He is on a daily joint supplement.

Theo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, currently heartworm negative and on Advantage Multi as a heartworm preventative.
