Kahlua came into rescue because her previous human lost his home and wanted to ensure Kahlua had the best life possible. She’s super sociable and is looking forward to her new forever home.

She LOVES to play but can get a bit rough, so it’s recommended for her to be in an only-dog home, or one with a submissive pet partner. “Won’t she get bored if left alone,” you ask? Actually, she can entertain herself for hours with a couple squeaky toys … the squeakier, the better. “What if I have kids,” you ponder? I guarantee they’re more squeaky than Kahlua, and YES she’ll get along with them just fine as long as you’re mindful of potential roughhousing. Is hide & seek your favourite game? Kahlua is a master at opening doors to find you, so be sure to keep your entry doors locked when she’s home.

Kahlua understands that your hands were created to pet her. Fortunately, scientific studies show that people with pets have lower heart rate & blood pressure and experience a faster recovery in stressful situations. More importantly, petting a dog is proven to increase IgA — antibodies which play a crucial role in the body’s immune function — which kinda makes Kahlua a life saver. I mean, logic.

“Don’t giant breed dogs require loads and loads of exercise?” One of the benefits of adopting a senior — don’t tell Kahlua — is they get tired more quickly. A couple minutes of zoomies around a fenced yard, or even a 15 minute brisk walk around the neighbourhood will keep her content and ready for a lie down.

Do you love food? So does Kahlua! She’s happy with kibble or a raw food diet, and only has a known dietary restriction to wheat. It’s pretty easy to get a “woo-woo” from her in this category. She also has zero food aggression and would allow you to try a sample from her bowl even while she’s chowing down. Sharing is caring, and Kahlua cares about you.

Concerned about basic doggy maintenance? Kahlua enjoys a mani/pedi just as much as the next person. She’ll even let you Dremmel her nails without a fuss. Baths? Inside or out, she’s super patient and loves that new dog smell especially if it comes with a warm towel, loads of pets, and a peanut butter Kong. mmmmmm peanut butter Kong

Do you like to travel? OMG SO DOES SHE! (The all-caps were necessary.)
Want a partner to ride shotgun? Check.
Want a partner who doesn’t get car sick? Check.
Want a partner who won’t drool all over the electronics? Check.
Want a partner who lets you focus on the road (unlike your kids)? Check.

Thinking Kahlua is a little too paw-fect for your home? Ok, we’ll be completely honest with you:
She is a senior dog, so climbing Everest with you is no longer in her future
She knows when you are sleeping; she knows when you’re awake … so be a good human and keep treats out of reach
When on walks, she can pull a little if she sees another large dog who wants to play, but understands follow-up commands like come and heel
Will Kahlua bring you endless amounts of joy? Yes. Should you seriously think about adopting this love muffin? Yes
