Gia

Gia was adopted by the Moon Family, April 2021

Gia came into rescue after her owner passed away and unfortunately we were unable to get any background information on her, not even how old she is.

We estimate Gia is around 4 years old and from what we have learned she is a very sweet, calm and a true Velcro Dane. She came into rescue in January 2021 and is just starting to really settle in and become comfortable enough to start playing with her Dane foster brother. We don’t think she was exposed to much more than the home she was raised in as she is skittish in new situations and when meeting new people, especially men. We are working on leash training as it seems she was never on a leash before.

Gia will do better with someone who is around more often than not. Be prepared for a lively welcome when you return. With her desire to have a person close by, she would probably do better with other dogs in the house to help keep her company.

She is good with small and large dogs. (Danes & Dachshunds) She is good with her blind foster Dachshund. (She tolerates being bumped into, but she will trample her to get food or attention.) She has no interest in the family cat. They often sleep close to each other. Gia is demanding of attention; if someone else is getting pet/love, she walks up and gets in the middle of the attention. Additionally she was around a 4 year old child in her foster home and was good with him.

Gia is not food aggressive and she waits patiently for her meals in her crate (she jumps all over if not crated) then eats outside of her crate. Her crate is left open and she goes in and out at will. She prefers sleeping on the couch next to her person, but will also nap in her crate. She does counter surf so any food left in her reach is fair game and will be eaten! This also includes the cat’s food if she has access to it, she will eat it too!

Gia does enjoy time outside in the yard to sun and run zoomies; she will however bark at the neighbors dogs or dig holes so supervision is needed.

Gia is housebroken and does not need to be crated (she is not crate trained). When left alone, Gia tends to rearrange some blankets, pillows, and dog beds. She has not been destructive. She just fluffs!
Gia is spayed and gastropexied as well as up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative/tested negative.
