Cobalt

Adopted by Bob & crew, September 2021

Cobalt is a blue male Dane (DOB March 2017) and is looking for a home that is as special as he is! He is neutered and gastropexied and up to date on vaccines. He is not destructive in the home and is not crated. He is fine with most animals he meets, small and large, including cats. He does require a very patient home as he has extreme issues with walking on tile/smooth surfaces. Rugs are his best friend! Footwear helps some but is not a complete fix for his confidence. He is being fostered in Cocoa/Brevard County.

Cobalt’s story: Cobalt came into rescue with what was best described as very shaky limbs when; his previous owner characterized it as “shaky hips” but his hips were not the problem. We did full body x-rays and nothing significant was found and an MRI was recommended. To rule out Wobbler’s Syndrome as a possibility he had an MRI at UF and nothing conclusive was found. Yay-that means no Wobbler’s! However they didn’t have an answer for what was going on with Cobalt. So we then headed to AVS in Maitland for a 2nd opinion with their neurologist. Because we ruled out Wobbler’s with the MRI, she was able to confirm a diagnosis of Ortho Static Tremor Syndrome. It is not very common and is a syndrome that is primarily found in Great Danes. It is not thought to be painful and the medication he is on helps lessen the severity of his tremors.

Cobalt will require bloodwork multiple times a year to ensure the medication is safe for his kidneys.

Cobalt is up to date on vaccines, heartworm tested negative and on a monthly preventative. Kids are an unknown.
