Adopted by the Smith family, July 2020
Annie (DOB April 2018) is female mantle Great Dane, currently weighing about 95 pounds. She is a sweet and silly pretty girl, who “prances” when she walks, and loves attention. She had a rough beginning, as she was left alone in a house for an unknown amount of time after her family was evicted. Another family tried to take her in, but she was just too much for them. Annie came into rescue as a bit of a wild child, but has since flourished in her foster home where she thrives on structure, consistency, and lots of high energy play with her foster siblings. She is doing very well learning manners and boundaries, but will need an adopter with time and energy to continue training work. However, she will reward you with tons of cuddles, love, and silliness!
Annie would do best in a home with at least one other large playful dog. She is currently fostered with three other Danes (2 male, 1 female) who are patient with her and love to play. Annie also lives with cats who are used to big dogs. She may not do well with some cats and smaller dogs, as she thinks everyone is her size and should play with her.
Annie came into rescue very underweight, and will seek out any human food she can find. She is an expert (and sneaky) counter surfer and food thief! She is very protective of her food, treats, and toys – we are making progress in this area, but she can be possessive and does not like anyone coming near things that are “hers”.
Annie’s favorite things, besides playing with her foster brothers and sister, are collecting toys and going for walks. She will collect as many toys as she can find and make piles of them throughout the house. She also likes to find various things in the house (clothes, hats, shoes, etc.) to collect, but she is not destructive – just a bit of a hoarder! She is housebroken and crate trained, but has recently been left out of her crate for periods of time while her people are out of the house, and she has been a very good girl. She can now also be left uncrated overnight and will just sleep on her dog bed.
Annie would do best in a home with a dog savvy human leader to ensure she continues to learn good consistent dog manners. She is young and active and needs a release for that energy, whether it is long walks, playtime with another large dog, and/or lots of play time with her humans. While she is a very nice girl, she does not necessarily understand her size so would not be a good fit in homes with young children or smaller animals. She absolutely adores her Dane foster brothers and would benefit from living with another large dog who can be a leader and a playmate.
Annie is heartworm negative, on monthly prevention, and up to date on vaccines.
