Maverick

Maverick was adopted by the Knights, November 2019

Maverick is a very sweet senior Dane, approximately 7 years old. He was surrendered when his owner became ill, but had also not been well cared for. Maverick was kept outdoors in a 6×12’ run and was not allowed inside the house because he was “too big”. When Mav came into rescue, his skin / fur had lots of infected sores, his feet had multiple abrasions, and his nails were overgrown and curled over – because of all of this, he had a very difficult time walking. He also had eye and ear infections and is heartworm positive.

Despite all of this, Maverick is the sweetest, most loving dog you could possibly imagine. Though his tail is crooked from previous injuries, it is always wagging. He is docile and compliant with baths, nail trimming, vet visits, etc.

After a series of medicated baths, antibiotics, meds, and lots of love, Mav quickly turned into a whole new dog, running around, playing with his foster brothers and sister, and loving on his humans. He had a bit of a setback with some gastrointestinal issues, but that appears to now be resolved.

Currently, Maverick is loving the good life in his foster home. He has been wonderful with the three other Danes in the house (two males and a female), and is also good with the cats. He’s been around children ages 5-11 and has been gentle and sweet with them. He loves going for car rides and walks, and is steadily improving on his leash manners. He now loves to run and play in the yard or at the park with his foster brothers and sister, and any other dog he happens to meet. He has never been aggressive or reactive. Most of all, he is a sucker for love – once a person starts petting him, he is all about clinging on and getting as much love and attention as possible. He is an expert cuddle bug!

Although he has been let down by negligent humans in the past, Maverick has an amazing abundance of love for every person and animal he meets. It’s easy to forget he is a senior when he is out running and playing. He will be such a wonderful addition to his adoptive family!

He is now up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and gastropexied.
