Axel

Axel was adopted by the Lowe Family, November 2019

Axel is a brindle/merle Great Dane & Cane Corso mix.  He is 80 pounds and his DOB is December 2018.  He was surrendered to rescue because his owner’s job required him to work long hours and Axel was not getting the attention he deserved.  Axel came into rescue with a pronounced limp of his front leg.  After reviewing xrays it was determined that he had OCD (Osteochondritis Dissecans) which is joint disease often found in large breed puppies, possibly from genetics or improper food choices causes rapid growth.  This painful condition required bilateral shoulder surgery in July.  He has since recovered and is ready for adoption.

Axel’s favorite pastime is to walk around with a toy in his mouth, grunting at you.  He is a silly boy who loves to be near his people.  He is good with all dogs he has met as well as cats but he can be a little too rambunctious with smaller dogs and cats – he wants to play with them as if there 80 pounds!

Axel is neutered, housebroken and crate trained as well as up to date on vaccines and on a monthly Heartworm preventative.  Because of his joint disease he will need to remain on joint supplements for his lifetime and will need to stay at a healthy weight, too much weight is not good for anyone’s joints!
