06/19/17: Gabe has an adoption pending!
Gabe is a 6+ year old black male Dane who was surrendered to GDLCF recently. He was originally found as a stray and turned into a shelter so his exact age and background are unknown. His previous owner adopted him from the shelter and then passed away unexpectedly so a friend took Gabe in until she was no longer able to care for him. He then found his way to rescue through some of his “friends” at the local dog park he frequented.
Gabe is a big boy at 155 pounds and seems social with all of the dogs and cats he has come into contact with. Because of his age and low activity level he would likely do best in a home that is quiet and any other pets are lower energy as well; Gabe isn’t looking for a jogging partner 🙂 We do not have any background on him living with children and would like consider him for a home with older/10+ years old to be safe. Additionally, Gabe isn’t gentle in his movements so smaller children could easily get knocked around by him, he is just a big guy. He does have a loud bark that he reserves for anyone new coming into the house and to let you know he wants to go outside.
In his foster home Gabe is calm, obedient and not overly affectionate but does enjoy laying with you on the couch. He does like to snack on anything available so he is best left crated when not being supervised. He does great with the female Dane in his foster home and previously lived with multiple dogs and at one point as the only dog in the home. Gabe is new to rescue so we are still getting to know him and how he does at public events/outings however he does enjoy neighborhood walks and is good on leash. He takes a daily joint supplement as well as fish oil to help with his joints. Gabe is a nice boy who will be a wonderful addition to the right family.
Gabe is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm tested (negative) and on monthly preventative.
