Rico

Rico was adopted by his foster family in October 2025!

Rico (DOB March, 2024) is a cuddly guy who believes your lap exists solely as a place for him to lay his head.  He wants nothing more in life than to be close to his people — whether that’s snuggling on the couch or following you from room to room so he can be a part of your day.

He is a happy, playful boy who adores his toys.  Plushies are his favorite and he likes to proudly parade them around. Tug is also a favored game and he’s always up for some zoomies in the yard. Rico requires another playful dog in the home for companionship and exercise.  As he tends to be cautious around new dogs, he would benefit from slow, structured introductions to any canine residents in the home.

Rico needs continued socialization as well as further training.  He also requires a high level of exercise and mental stimulation, or he will seek out his own forms of entertainment – which generally involve a great deal of creative chewing.  His ideal home would be able to provide a structured environment for him and have a strong training background.  It would also be best if there was someone in the household that was generally home.  Because of his size and enthusiasm, he’s best suited for a home with older children.

He is cat-friendly, great in the car and loves meeting new people. He is crate trained and should be crated when left alone, as he can get into all manners of mischief when bored.  His leash manners are a work in progress, but he responds well to the use of a Halti.

Rico is cooperative with grooming, though nail trims are an ongoing project.  Vet visits are very stressful for him, so medication is required beforehand to help him stay calm.  He requires a fenced yard with a minimum height of 6 feet.

He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on a monthly heartworm preventative. He is fostered in Sarasota and is ready for adoption. If you would like to make him a part of your family, please fill out an application and submit the processing fee.
